Why We Do What We Do

For most businesses, the story behind how the business came to be isn’t important. But for a surrogate and egg donation agency, that story might be one of the most important things people need to know.

My name is Eloise Drane, and I want to tell you the story of how my company, Family Inceptions, came to be.

A Gift for Giving

I was in my mid-twenties when one of my family members was diagnosed with kidney failure. No one in my family, including me, was an initial match.

In a last-ditch effort, I decided to try another blood test a year later and, by what I believe to be an act of God, I was somehow now a match. Unfortunately, an e. coli infection claimed my cousin just six weeks later, but I believe that in giving him that opportunity for life, I learned what the true meaning of giving was. I learned my life purpose and meaning.

A year later, I saw an ad in a newspaper seeking egg donors. I was already a mother of three, but I felt compelled to offer my own eggs to those who couldn’t otherwise have children. And, though I wasn’t pleased with my treatment as a donor the first time, I opted to donate again a few years later.

The more experience I had with the egg donation process, the more I wanted to learn and I soon began working with a surrogacy agency as an egg donor coordinator. As my understanding of the different ways that families are created increased, so did my desire to be a part of these journeys. It wasn’t long before I decided to become a gestational surrogate, myself. I successfully completed 3 gestational surrogacy pregnancies delivering a set of twins the first time, a boy the second time and a girl the last time. Each pregnancy was a miraculous, joyous experience that I will always cherish.

But even though I loved being a surrogate and an egg donor, I understood that I could only help a limited number of people by being an egg donor or a surrogate—and I wanted to help so many more.

Since 2006, I’ve had the privilege to offer professional guidance, support, and services to help people become parents via egg donation and surrogacy. Since then, my company, Family Inceptions, and I have helped many intended parents add a child to their families and helped many surrogates and egg donors fulfill their desires to help others with their dreams of having a child.

My spirituality is very personal to me—and we at Family Inceptions are very welcoming of people of all religions and lifestyles. But my guiding principle is from the Bible; paraphrasing Matthew 5:13-16: “Each individual is the salt of the earth and the light of the world. You should be giving of yourself, be willing to help others, willing to love another person without having an agenda or a need for reciprocation.” I try to live that every day, and I’ve built this business around that idea.
